“The author is a well known journalist and a Past Grand Master of the United Grand Lodges of Germany. One third of the book contains a rapid but correct survey of Freemasonry in general and of more in detail in Germany. The remainder deals with relations between the Roman Church and the Craft particularly during the last ten years or so. The relevant texts are given in extenso notably the 1982 declaration of the German Roman Catholic Bishops Conference culminating in the statement that ‘simultaneous membership in Freemasonry and the Roman Catholic Church is incompatible’. Then follows a number of statements issued by the United Grand Lodges of Germany by Roman Catholic Churchmen and experts and the Vatican authorities. It is this documentation that makes the publication interesting and valuable for record purposes.”
